Social Commitment

Two people are looking at a laptop screen with interest, possibly working together. Graphic icons suggesting a social network overlay the image. They're indoors.

We strive to foster a culture that prioritizes health and safety, thrives on inclusion and belonging, supports our communities, and actively engages our employees.

At Metallus, our commitment to fostering an engaged workforce is reflected in four key areas: health and safety; inclusion and belonging; community impact; and employee engagement. We prioritize the health and safety of our workforce, ensuring a secure working environment that empowers every individual to thrive. Our commitment to equity is deeply rooted in cultivating an inclusive workplace that embraces diverse perspectives and talents. We actively engage with our communities through impactful philanthropic initiatives and partnerships, aiming to create positive change. Moreover, we invest in employee engagement to foster a culture of collaboration, growth, and empowerment.

Health and safety is our top priority, every day.

A safe and healthy workplace is the foundation of a responsible, thriving organization. Through comprehensive safety protocols, dynamic training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives, we foster a culture of vigilance and responsibility where everyone feels secure, supported, and empowered.

2022 Sustainability Report

The “People” section of our latest sustainability report contains more information about the commitments we make to our employees and to our communities.

Health and Safety by the Numbers

Our global Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Policy guides our approach to safety. We are committed to continuously improving our EHS performance by fostering cooperation among employees, company leaders, and government. Every Metallus employee and contractor is responsible for understanding and supporting the policy. We reinforce this responsibility by requiring regular education, training, and evaluation.

Inclusion and Belonging

Diverse perspectives create an engaging culture

With inclusive workplace policies designed to strengthen our reputation as an employer of choice, our commitment to inclusion and belonging runs through every aspect of our organization. We have an advisory council comprised of Metallus’ senior leaders that promotes awareness, training, and leveraging diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences to make a positive impact within the company and our communities.

Community Impact

Committed to community engagement

We take a holistic approach and strive to understand and respond to the unique needs of our communities. Our efforts include employee volunteer programs, donations of resources and financial support, corporate sponsorships, and engaging in board service.

We believe in empowering young individuals in our communities to unlock their highest potential and invest in educational initiatives to cultivate a strong pipeline of professionals who can contribute to both our industry and the local economies in which we operate. Through these initiatives, we are committed to making a lasting positive impact on the communities we serve, strengthening our bonds and contributing to their growth and prosperity.

Case Studies

  • Three people are seated at a table with art supplies, actively engaged in what appears to be a crafting activity in a brightly lit room.

    INSPIRE ERG Supports Senior Citizens

Metallus employees came together to promote awareness for World Senior Citizens Day. Our INSPIRE ERG encouraged all employees to participate in a meaningful initiative called Letters Against Isolation (LIA). Our employees embraced this cause and wrote and designed 50 heartfelt letters. These letters made their way to senior citizens residing at May Dugan Center Seniors on the Move in Cleveland and Charter Senior Living of Oak Openings in Sylvania, Ohio.

  • Three people in a partially completed room. One person holds a tool, pointing, while others watch attentively. Construction environment. Drywall installation likely.

    Habitat for Humanity

Over the last few years, we have engaged with our local Habitat for Humanity chapter, allowing employees to volunteer for a day at a local home under construction for a family in need. Recent projects have included raising exterior walls and painting the inside of a nearly completed home.

  • A folded American flag is draped over a surface, secured with coiled ropes, displaying the stars against a blue background, suggesting a ceremonial or respectful context.

    VETS Yearly Flag Collection

Each year, our VETS ERG collects American flags that are no longer serviceable for proper disposal on Flag Day, honoring our country’s freedom. On Flag Day each year, a moment of silence is held when the flags collected are retired in our Faircrest facility.
